springboard

Springboard is a UK-based charity organization that works to support young people, the unemployed, and those facing barriers to employment in the hospitality, leisure, and tourism industry. They provide training, mentoring, and job placement assistance.

Fred Sirieix

On Christmas day 2012, Fred Sirieix launched National Waiters Day which involved food, music, drink and a famous race where everyone carries a tray full of water along a 400m stretch without any spillages. The race event was put together by Fred to support Industry charity Springboard in 2012.

Fred Sirieix is a famous French restaurant manager who has been on TV shows like First Dates and Million Pound Menu. Sirieix grew up in a town called Limoges in France. He learned how to work in the dining area of a Michelin-starred restaurant in France. Then, he worked at another restaurant called La Tante Claire in London. Fred is now currently the General Manager at Galvin at Windows, the award-winning Michelin-starred restaurant on the 28th floor of the London Hilton on Park Lane.

FutureChef

Lockhart Catering Equipment has supported Springboard in many different ways over the years. The first is sponsoring their Futurechef Programme. FutureChef is a culinary education program based in the United Kingdom. It is primarily aimed at young people who have an interest in pursuing a career in the culinary arts and hospitality industry. The program is designed to inspire and develop the next generation of chefs by providing them with opportunities for learning, mentorship, and hands-on experience. The Springboard FutureChef competition is now the biggest school culinary competition in the UK celebrating talent and adding to our long list of successful alumni. FutureChef supports the national curriculum and the development of key life skills whilst inspiring young people to cook.

Vietnam Trek

In March 2018, our Head of Marketing Services, Hiramoni Sarma, participated in a Vietnam trek organised by the Springboard charity. This event was one of Springboard's key fundraising events, making a difference in the lives of those seeking opportunities for education and employment support. Alongside 30 individuals from the hospitality industry, they undertook a 70-kilometer trek in Vietnam's Hoa Binh province.

They trekked through the rainforest of the Hoang Lien Son mountains, crossing forests and rice paddies and spent the final four days constructing a primary school in the remote village of Ham Yen, where the monthly wage is a mere $15 USD. The team were actively engaged in building the school—mixing cement, constructing walls, and painting rooms. These efforts made a genuine impact in just four days.

Hiramoni Sarma explains “The overall challenge was both amazing and tough, and it proved to be a great success for the team in raising funds for Springboard. Personally, I managed to raise £5,890 for Springboard, and I am particularly grateful for Bunzl's contribution to this meaningful cause.”
