History

There are many theories as to how the Margarita was created. According to Diffords guide, here are a few of them:

One theory suggests that Margaritas were originally created in Mexico in 1936 by Daniel Negrete. When he was the manager of Garci Crespo hotel in Puebla, Mexico, Daniel had a girlfriend called Margarita and she liked salty drinks, so he created one for her as a present.

The next theory suggests that an expert in Mexican folklore named Sara Morales, claims that the Margarita was created in 1930 by Dona Bertha, who was the owner of Berthas bar in Mexico.

Another theory suggests that Santa Cruz created the margarita for the famous jazz singer Peggy Lee after requesting “a tequila drink without a lot of mess in it”.

To this day, it is still unknown as to who first created the infamous Margarita drink.
