unique restaurants

We all love to go out for fine dining or a quick bite to eat but have you ever visited a restaurant where its more that just food on a plate? We have researched four different restaurants around the world that offer a unique dining experience full of flavor. Read on to find out more…

Sublimotion, Ibiza

Located inside Hard Rock Hotel Ibiza, Sublimotion is one of the world’s most futuristic restaurants. Combining food, art and illusionism that ventures beyond the plate. For 3 hours, (and $2,400 per head) 12 diners are taken on a journey through a 20-course tasting menu that takes them through different times and places in the world. Sublimotion is owned by two-Michelin starred chef Paco Roncero and has been open since 2014. The huge 20 course tasting meal consists of Spanish avant-garde cuisine, paired with wine and champagne. The 12 diners indulge in a high tech, interactive space called “capsule”; a blank canvas which is transformed into the different themes. The immersive experience is choreographed with its own musical menu. The soundtrack and imagery are put together by award winning composers and illusionists to blur the boundaries of reality. Towards the end of the 20-course tasting menu, customers are given virtual reality headsets to use whilst they are eating.

Ultraviolet, Shanghai

In 2012, avant-garde French chef Paul Pairet opened a multi-sensory dining experience in Shanghai, China. The music, room, lighting, food and even the smells are carefully chosen from a 20-course set menu. After booking, guests are given a secret location where they are picked up in a blind van. The guests are then taken into an empty room with a large table that is surrounded by 360 degrees projections and are closely watched by a control room backstage, allowing the staff to take their time and letting the guests enjoy the experience. The menu is strongly influenced by traditional French cuisine although guests are taken on a journey around the world from Thai to Japanese cuisine. As the restaurant is in Shanghai, getting ingredients can be an issue but as Ultraviolet use local suppliers, all of their meat, vegetables and seafood are served fresh. Not only is ultraviolet a 3 Michelin star restaurant, but it is also an artistic performance at the same time.
