Next year they predict plant-based drinking, sustainable packaging, gut-friendly food & drinks and sugar-free are the most noticeable trends.

Whilst it’s one of the busiest times of year for the bars and pubs, we always need to be looking ahead. What’s the next big thing in hospitality to drive sales? What are the drinking behaviours of the next generation? How do we need to adapt our offering so we aren’t missing out on market share?

Read our overview of the 2019 Dining Trends to look out for

Research has shown that one of the biggest drink trends set to rise in 2019 is the increased focus on health. Just this week IFE has revealed the results of its recent survey which highlighted that booze-free beverages was the third biggest trend of this year. Next year they predict plant-based drinking, sustainable packaging, gut-friendly food & drinks and sugar-free are the most noticeable trends.

A healthier nation?

With a desire to look after their body and minds consumers will be looking to enjoy drinks that include a range of superfood ingredients. This won’t just be drinks that have an impact on our bodies, as consumers will also consider what will help them sleep better and feel more relaxed for a healthier mind.

Is it photo-worthy?

Instagram friendly drinks are also going to do well in 2019 as younger consumers want to purchase beverages that will look good in a photo and are sharable amongst friends. Colour is often key in making photos stand out in a newsfeed. Do you know at Lockhart we have many products which can bring a wow-factor to your drinks offering? Can you create nostalgia?

Consumers love to feel a sense of nostalgia which is why drinks that remind us of our childhood will perform well. Flavours such as cookie-dough and caramel apple could be big hits if they bring back memories. Nostalgia is also an effective way of getting people to share photos and help spread the word about your drinks offering.

More cultured tastes

Predictions suggest that in 2019, Brits will continue to show an interest in other cultures and flavours from around the world when drinking and eating out. Spicy flavours like cardamom, ginger and Chinese Five Spice have all seen sales growths in recent years and drinks such as cocktails, coffees and teas will see more ethnic inspiration.

You can serve your tea and coffee in style with our selection of products ranging from standard to speciality glasses, including latte and iced tea. We have carefully sourced all products from brands with outstanding reputations in the industry, including Steelite, Arcoroc, Utopia, and Bormioli Rocco.

Genware also has a fantastic coffee shop selection which you can see on i360tv

Sense and sustainability

As with food choices, the environment is going to play a key part in decision making when it comes to drinks. Throughout 2018, there have been so many stories around banning plastic straws in pubs with much greater questioning on drinks packaging too. It’s a story that is set to continue in 2019 meaning you need to be prepared for questioning by consumers and ensuring you are doing everything you can to protect the planet.

What about wine?

Organic wine is expected to double its market share in the UK by 2022, according to a study by the Institute of Wine & Spirit Research (IWSR).

Bibendum Wines also recently revealed its thinking on what will be happening in the wine sector. It revealed that the more little-known wine regions will do well with South America and Italy being key areas of regional diversity with new areas of France and Eastern Europe also emerging.

According to Bibendum, vegan wine will be another key trend in 2019, following the increasing popularity of vegan food. The report said that ‘one in every 10 premium, trend-setting outlets [already features] vegan-friendly lines on their wine lists’.#
