  3. What Are the Biggest Wedding Food Trends for 2015?
blog feature 2
Apart from the vows, the venue and the very first dance, food is one of the elements of weddings that everyone remembers – especially if it’s outstandingly good. Gone are the days of traditional roast dinners and sausage roll-laden evening buffets; the wedding food trends for 2015 are proving that brides- and grooms-to-be are now putting more consideration (and money) than ever into feeding their guests in style.

So what are couples choosing for their wedding day menus this year? Let’s take a look at some of the current wedding food and drink themes that couples are using to make their celebration stand out and showcase their unique tastes.

Many couples are allowing nature to dictate their wedding food choices to them by selecting only ingredients that are in season, or sourced from the region around their wedding venue. This results in an interesting, exciting, fresh and sometimes even more affordable wedding food menu (as the food has a shorter distance to travel), and also gets guests talking, especially when information about the provenance of the ingredients are shared on the wedding tables.

We’ve discussed the rising popularity of sharing dishes before on the Lockhart blog, and couples are embracing this dining style for their wedding meal either by placing large bowls or plates of food directly onto guest tables, or setting up themed ‘food stations’ at which guests can help themselves. This style of eating means all guests get to choose exactly what’s on their plates, plus you can add a good selection of vegetarian or vegan options to ensure that nobody goes hungry.

The street food trend that has exploded over the past year has proved to have no boundaries, as food trucks are now even pulling up to wedding venues to serve guests everything from artisan sourdough pizzas to bulging burritos. After all, if it’s the couples’ favourite food, why shouldn’t they have it at their wedding too? The added bonuses of hiring a food truck for weddings are that it’s often much cheaper than having caterers; the food is cooked to order, so it’s fresh; and the portions are usually of a very healthy size too. Plus it encourages communal dining, getting guests mingling.

Wedding days are long, with guests often requiring sustenance from before lunchtime up until around midnight. And of course that includes the couple themselves too! To keep everyone from flagging well before the party’s over, many couples are arranging appetite-quelling late-night snacks to be laid on, such as mini-burgers, vegetable skewers, hot chocolate or even cheese on toast.

It wouldn’t be a wedding day celebration without a few tipples with which to toast the happy couple, and guests should expect to be raising glasses that contain something a little more exciting than champagne this year.

Couples with a flair for personalisation are working with mixologists to create their very own cocktails for their wedding day drinks, containing their favourite flavours and even in colours to match their wedding décor. And it’s not just the fruity and fizzy drinks that are being considered too; craft beers and ciders are also making appearances on the bars, especially from small local companies to honour where the couple are from, or where the celebration is taking place.
