According to vegan food and living, over a third of brits will switch to plant-based diets in the year 2022. Their research showed that 22% of consumers plan to eat plant-based meat, and 19% plan to eat more plant-based dairy.

This increase of popularity has led us to believe that this trend will continue to grow in 2022 due to many consumers wanting to reduce their carbon footprint by ditching meat and choosing sustainable choices for their own personal health and wellbeing.

Levantine food

The Levant is currently one of the hottest global regions for culinary exploration. It is well known for its staple ingredients including chickpeas, peppers, eggplant, mint, lemon and yogurt.

According to supherb farms, Levantine cuisine will continue to grow in the coming years as 35% of consumers would like more restaurants to offer Levantine dishes. We are predicting a rise in seeing more Levantine foods as 44% of consumers have not tasted Levantine cuisine but would like to and many non-Levantine restaurants have an opportunity to feature this regions cuisine.

In part due to the pandemic and restrictions on movement, 65% of UK adults are trying to eat healthily more often, but as there has been many financial challenges in the past year, some of these consumers are now turning to low-costing and less sugary cereal in the mornings.

According to Lakeland furniture, 29.01% of 2041 over 16s consumers choose to have cereals at breakfast time as its more affordable. With an estimated £200m a month now spent on organic food and drink in the UK, families are placing greater emphasis on leading better lifestyles, focused on wellbeing and sustainability, according to grocery trader.

As the pandemic continues and the threat of restrictions being imposed on hospitality venues remains, more consumers are experimenting with Spicy foods as they try to recreate restaurant-style cuisine in their own kitchen. According to fortune business insights, the hot sauce market will increase to USD 4.38 Billion by 2028.

These statistics have led us to believe this trend will grow in 2022 as there is an increase in demand for organic products with high nutritional profiles. With the uncertainty surrounding hospitality in the next few months, consumers will be looking to expand their repertoire with home-cooking, and this is likely to include more spicy foods.

Nostalgic Flavours

Throughout the past 12 months, supermarkets have reported a rise in nostalgic food sales as consumers may be looking to be reminded of fun childhood memories and perhaps turn to these for comfort as more people move away from the daily news broadcasts. Internet searches for childhood classics certainly support this - according to the BBC, internet searches for banoffee pie more than doubled in the first months of lockdown and the CO-OP revealed that the sales of dried trifle went up 738%.

We believe this will be a trend in 2022 as companies see the increase of consumers wanting nostalgic flavors and will begin to utilize them into their dishes and products.

Our 2022 prediction of exciting food trends will likely take the catering and hospitality sectors by storm, so whether it’s plant-based bacon or going back to your childhood with your favorite banoffee pie, have fun experimenting with the latest food trends of 2022.
