We’ve seen Mediterranean temperatures for much of the summer here in the UK and it’s given the team here at Lockhart a taste for all things Spanish.

Tapas continues to grow in popularity with its sociable and informal feel and delicious, warm flavours. There is also a love of sharing foods when dining out and tapas dishes help make eating out a social and memorable experience.

Whether you’re reminiscing about a recent Spanish holiday or just enjoy this style of food all year-round, there are many dishes you could create. This month we’re sharing a few of our favourites.

Five tapas dishes we love here at Lockhart

1. Tortilla Española is also known as Spanish Omelette and is the most commonly served dish in Spain. Sometimes it will be served as a tapa, but it can also be presented as a main dish for a meal or used as a sandwich filling.

2. Patatas Bravas is served in restaurants and bars throughout Spain and it would be unusual to see a tapas menu without this popular dish. These fried potatoes are covered in a slightly spicy tomato sauce which gets its kick from Tabasco. Did you know the word ‘bravas’ means fierce in Spanish?

3. Seafood Paella tastes delicious served with a Spanish Rioja wine and often includes prawns, squid or mussels. This perfect pairing immediately gives a classic taste of Spain.

4. Another classic tapa dish is Gambas al Ajillo which means garlic shrimp. Fresh prawns are cooked in olive oil with garlic and chili peppers, to create a delicious and flavoursome dish which is ideal for sharing.

5. You will often see many variations of stuffed peppers, but popular Mediterranean fillings would be rice, cheese, garlic or olives.

How should traditional tapas be served?

It’s not just the actual food that’s important when serving tapas-style dishes. Presentation is also a key element to make diners remember a trip to your restaurant and entice them to come back. Diners want to be able to help themselves to these dishes and pass them around the table without difficulty. Tapas food is also known for its bold colours, so you will want serving bowls and plates that bring those to life.

This year we’ve been delighted to introduce the new Crème organic colour bowls designed with these dishes in mind. With the rise of sharing and tapas-style dining, Crème has created a collection of miniature side dishes and presentation pots in black and white to offset its existing products and create a brand new look and feel for your food display.
