All the action from the Bocuse d’Or Finale 2019
It’s fair to say the Lockhart team were more than a little excited to attend Sirha, the world hospitality and foodservice event in Lyon, where the exciting live final of the famous Bocuse d'Or cooking competition took place. We were ready to cheer on the UK’s Chef Tom Phillips and commis chef Nathan Lane from the moment we arrived.

The challenge was on for Tom and Nathan who had five hours 35 minutes to produce 16 plates of the fish course and a platter which had to be divided into 14 portions. They also had to prepare two hot chartreuses – 8 portions for each. This year's theme for the platter was rack of suckling veal with five chops served together with one or more choices of offal from a list including sweetbreads, calf's ruffle, foot, kidneys and liver. It was no easy task – but then this is the world’s most prestigious culinary competition.
We can only imagine the pressure in the kitchen for Tom and Nathan who did an amazing job and worked incredibly hard together. The looks of focus and sheer dedication on their faces during the finale were inspiring. We hope the huge support from the crowd helped spur them on!

Crowds went wild as the judging got underway. It was obvious they had a tough task ahead of them, the standards were so high and from what we saw the presentation was exquisite.
It was now time for a nervous wait to hear the judges’ final decisions announced. We managed to briefly catch up with Chef Tom Phillips on his way to the announcements, he was looking calm and collected despite the day’s events. What a hero!

It was a fantastic result for the UK team too, who came away in tenth place. To be rated as tenth in the world really is an amazing achievement. We’re thrilled for Tom and Nathan and send them both massive congratulations from everyone at Lockhart.
