The Trend

In fact, the National Design Academy has declared Monochrome as one of its big trends to watch out for in 2018. With so much interest in monochrome, it is almost inevitable that this design trend will start to influence the tableware sector too. In fact interior stylist Rory Robertson recently commented that black and white tableware is a must-have to get monochrome right in a dining-room. Ideal Home magazine has also published a number of features on how to accessorise with black and white tableware to complete the perfect monochrome look. So, there are enough hints for the restaurant sector to watch the monochrome trend closely and outside of the UK a number of leading restaurants are already embracing the trend.

Pujol

‘Pujol’, considered by many to be the best restaurant in Mexico City is already making a statement by using monochrome tableware specially created for them by designer Moisés Hernández. Monochrome tableware offers a number of advantages. The classic contrast of black and white creates both a blank canvas for food presentation as well as offering the opportunity to add some real drama through contrasting the colour of the plate with the colour of the food. Adding a few strategically-placed black signature pieces to an existing white tableware suite can make a huge difference to the overall look you can achieve.
